With an early education in art from his father, an artist and educator, Joe has picked up the brushes again after many years away. Experiments with brush-spray techniques have allowed him to accurately depict the Milky Way in the night sky. Combining these and more traditional brush techniques on old drum heads, he recreates images of galaxies, nebulae, and other popular telescope objects as if viewed through the eyepiece. Great care is taken to reproduce these astronomical images accurately from photographic subjects. In contrast, terrestrial foreground landscapes are typically improvised.
